WARRENSBURG, MO (Jan. 27, 2014)–The Gallery of Art and Design and the art education program at the University of Central Missouri will host Gallery Kids from 1-2:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, in the gallery, located at 217 E. Clark St. in Warrensburg.
UCM art and design students assist area children in creating their own designs at Gallery Kids.
Kids ages 5-12 are invited to create their own works with the current gallery exhibit of art books by Tuscon, Ariz., book artist Philip Zimmermann as inspiration. Each student participating will leave with his or her own hand-made book, created with the assistance of UCM art education students.
Enrollment is open on a first come, first served basis, with the class limited to 20. There is no charge for the event.
“Twenty kids participated in the October Gallery Kids event, and registration is filling up for February,” said Christian Cutler, gallery director. “We created this event as a way to reach out to the community in an effort to bring more community members into UCM’s Gallery of Art and Design, which is a wonderful space to experience regional, national and international visual art and design.”
Cutler added that gallery exhibits change every three to four weeks. In addition to Gallery Kids, the galleries will be open for visitors. Currently on display is “Beautiful Bitmaps,” letters of the alphabet reimagined by designers and illustrators; “DESIGNER APPROVED,” an exhibition highlighting green finishes, furniture, and equipment for the home; and “Spaceheater Editions,” art books from Philip Zimmermann’s press.
Gallery admission is free and groups are welcome.
