WARRENSBURG - 10/19/2006 - UCM will host the return of the Festival of Champions band competition at UCM's Audrey J. Walton Stadium Saturday, Oct. 21, after a two year absence.
New Field Surface Provide Firm Footing
The installation of SprinTurf on Vernon Kennedy Field at Walton Stadium provides a new, weatherproof surface for the outdoor competition. Indoor competitions are planned for the university's Garrison Gymnaisum.
Field Competitions Continue throughout the Day
Preliminary marching band competition begins at 10:26 a.m. on Vernon Kennedy Field at Walton Stadium. Following a break for lunch from noon to 1 p.m., competition resumes and ends with a performance by UCM's Marching Mules at 4:20 p.m. Finals competition begins at 6:30 p.m., with awards scheduled for 9:15 p.m.
Auxiliary Competitions in Garrison Gymnasium
Indoor auxiliary competition begins at 10 a.m. in Garrison Gymnasium, and indoor drum competition begins at 1:50 p.m. in the same location.
Proceeds Benefit UCM Music Scholarship Fund
Admission is $10 for field competition and $5 for auxiliary and drum competitions. All proceeds will benefit the UCM Department of Music Scholarship Fund for the wind and percussion areas.
Variety of Schools Will Participate
Schools registered to compete include Southern Boone, Marionville, Clopton, Warsaw, St. James, Center, Northwest, Lee's Summit, Lee's Summit North, Lee's Summit West, Republic, Fort Osage, Nevada, William Chrisman, Branson, Nixa, Warrensburg, Truman and Willard.
