Homecoming 2006 Theme Announced |
Contact: Jeff Muphy
WARRENSBURG - 5/26/2006 -
"Moving Forward, Giving Back," is the theme of UCM's 2006 Homecoming celebration, planned for Oct. 13-14 as part of a week-long celebration for UCM students, alumni and friends.
Mark Your Calendars
Area residents and friends of UCM are encouraged to mark their calendars for the special weekend, which provides opportunities for participation by groups and individuals on- and off-campus. This year's theme pays homage to the university's motto "Education for Service."
Motto Part of University's History
UCM adopted the motto in 1916 as it was rebuilding facilities destroyed by a great fire. At the time, President Eldo Hendricks sought an inscription to put above the Training School, which is now part of the Humphreys Building. He liked the suggestion, "Education for Service," by Laura Runyan, assistant professor of history. Today, it still provides inspiration for shaping the university culture.
Sharing of Talent, Resources Celebrated
Through the 2006 Homecoming, the university celebrates how UCM students, faculty, staff and alumni share their time, talents and resources to assist the institution, as well as communities, states and countries across the globe.
