WARRENSBURG, MO (Oct. 12, 2009) - UCM's departments of Theatre and Music present Stephen Sondheim’s 1987 Tony Award-winning musical Into the Woods Oct. 14-18 in the James L. Highlander Theatre.

Curtain time is 7:30 p.m. Oct. 14-17, with a 2 p.m. matinee performance planned for Sunday, Oct. 18.

John Wilson, associate professor of theatre, is director, with Lisa Fredenburgh, assistant professor of voice, as musical director and Jacob Sentgeorge, assistant professor of music, as the assistant musical director. Into the Woods intertwines the lives of fairy tale characters such as Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk and Cinderella, while centering around the story of a childless baker and his wife. The story explores the true consequences of their hopes and dreams.

Originally presented on Broadway in 1987, Into the Woods continues to be an audience favorite due to its unique plot and commanding musical score.
