WARRENSBURG, MO (Oct. 26, 2011) – Jon Taylor, associate professor of history at the University of Central Missouri, will be featured in a broadcast on American History TV on CSPAN3 on Sunday, Oct. 30, discussing his recent  book, “Harry Truman’s Grandview Farm.”

The program is scheduled to air at 7:30 a.m., with repeat broadcasts at 6:30 and 9:30 p.m., the same day. The program was recorded during Taylor’s presentation at the National Archives Great Plains Region in Kansas City on June 29, 2011. Check local program guides for program availability.

Taylor’s book documents Truman’s life of the family farm from the time the family moved to the farm in 1906, including the period when Truman ran the farm from the time of his father’s death in 1914 until he left the farm to enlist to serve in World War I. The book documents Truman’s nine-year courtship of Bess Wallace through letters between Grandview and Independence and her occasional visits to the farm. Drawing on photographs, letters and farm receipts, Taylor tells the story of an important part of the life of the man whose humble beginnings prepared him to lead his country during some of its most troubled times.

Taylor received an associate’s degree from Bacone College, Muskogee, Okla.; a bachelor’s degree from Southwest Baptist University, Bolivar, Mo.; a master’s degree from Baylor University and a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri. He served as historian for the Harry S. Truman Historic Site in Independence from 1993 to 1998.
