Inspiration for "Rain Man" to Visit UCM Oct. 12
Contact: Mike Greife
WARRENSBURG, MO (Oct. 6, 2009) – Kim Peek, the world-famous savant and inspiration for the Oscar award-winning film “Rain Man,” is coming to UCM at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, in Hendricks Hall.
Peek's presentation, "Sharing the Same Shadow," is hosted by the UCM Office of Diversity.
Keeping a Promise to Inspire and Educate
Peek, who reads up to eight books per day with a 98 percent retention rate, will appear with his father, Fran Peek. Since 1989 father and son have mesmerized audiences while keeping a promise to actor Dustin Hoffman, who portrayed Kim in the film, to share Kim and his amazing abilities with the world.
In addition to educating the public about savant syndrome, the Peeks inspire audiences of all ages with the message of respecting diversity and appreciating the capabilities of those with disabilities.
Free and Open to the Public
The presentation is open to the public. Admission is free, and those attending are asked to bring a non-perishable item to be donated to the Warrensburg Food Center.
