WARRENSBURG, MO (Jan. 26, 2011) – KMOS-TV, the University of Central Missouri’s public broadcasting station, recently earned the National Educational Telecommunications Association’s award for excellence in a promotion/single video production.

Donald Peterson, left, director of Broadcasting Services at the University of Central Missouri, congratulates Dorothy McGrath, manager of television and community programs at KMOS-TV, on the announcement that the station received the National Educational Telecommunications Association award for Promotion/Single Video.

KMOS-TV earned the award for the locally produced promotional video featuring Kevin and Michael Bacon, the Bacon Brothers. Dorothy McGrath, manager of television and community programs at KMOS-TV, received the award on behalf of the station at the NETA annual conference in Nashville.

“It took a team effort to create the spot,” McGrath said, noting that the station staff took advantage of the appearance by the Bacon Brothers on the UCM campus during fall 2009. “We invited them to film the promotional video, and their spontaneity added a great deal to the finished product.”

Judges noted that the piece was “a serendipitous moment for sure, and any station would have taken advantage of the situation. This piece ties together PBS, KMOS-TV and a variety of programs found on the station via the network. The humor positioned the content and the station as both sophisticated and down to earth.”

“It was a wonderful opportunity for our student television production assistants to work with well-known professionals in their fields.” said Donald Peterson, UCM’s director of Broadcasting Services. “I am very pleased that our staff was nationally recognized for their creativity.”

The NETA Awards are annual recognition of member-produced excellence in public broadcasting, a tradition established more than 40 years ago by the pioneering Southern Educational Communications Association.

KMOS-TV broadcasts on digital channels 6.1, 6.2 and 6.3, providing PBS programming to 38 Missouri counties from offices and studios in the Patton Broadcast Center on the UCM campus.
