WARRENSBURG, MO (July 9, 2008) – Radio and Records, the premier music industry trade magazine, has announced that KTBG-FM 90.9 The Bridge, the University of Central Missouri’s public broadcasting radio station, has been nominated for its Triple A Industry Achievement Award – Non-Commercial Station of the Year, Top 50 Markets. The Bridge, based on the UCM campus in Warrensburg, Mo., is included in the Top 50 markets based on its success in Kansas City.
Nomination by Peers an Honor
According to Donald Peterson, UCM’s director of broadcasting services, this nomination is significant because it is peer-nominated.
“We are quite proud to be recognized,” Peterson said. “The nomination speaks to the respect we’ve generated in the music community. It’s an honor that should be shared not just with the university and our staff, but also the members who support us.”
Other nominees include KEXP, Seattle, WA.; KUT, Austin, TX; WFUV, New York, NY; WXPN, Philadelphia, PA and WYEP, Pittsburgh, PA.
Strong Group of Nominees
Jon Hart, program director for The Bridge, acknowledged the strength of the other nominees.
“I’ve suggested to our staff that they treat the nomination as a win; we’re up against some truly incredible radio stations,” Hart said. “This is our first nomination, and it took us completely by surprise. We’ll make every effort to live up to the nomination; it’s certainly motivation as we work to grow the station.”
Winners will be announced Saturday, Aug. 9 at the Radio and Records convention in Boulder, Colo.
