Coach Peggy Martin Honored for Legendary Career at UCM

WARRENSBURG, MO (Nov. 17, 2008) – Peggy Martin, the legendary head coach of the UCM Jennies volleyball team, was honored during the last regular season match of her career Friday, Nov. 14, as the Jennies wrapped up their regular season with a 3-1 victory over Nebraska-Omaha and a berth at the NCAA-II tournament..

Dr. Peggy Martin Volleyball Court
UCM recognized Martin, who will retire at the end of the year, for her 33 years of service. A highlight of the ceremony was the naming of the Dr. Peggy Martin Volleyball Court in the Multipurpose Building.. Martin was also honored with a commemorative coin from Warrensburg Mayor Donna DeFrain, a watch from MIAA Commissioner Jim Johnson, and an honorary letter jacket from UCM Athletic Director Jerry Hughes.
Senior Night for Three Jennies
Three senior members of the Jennies volleyball squad also were honored during Senior Night ceremonies following the match. Brooke Butler, Carrie Peterson and Jacquelyn Williams were recognized during their last regular season game for the Jennies.

A Legendary Career
Martin entered the match with a Division II record 1,062 wins, 31 consecutive seasons with at least 25 wins, and 25 consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament. The Mobile, Ala. native also has won 19 MIAA titles and 22 different Coach of the Year honors, including the 1987 Division II National Coach of the Year.
