MLK Celebration Recognizes Campus, Community Leadership

WARRENSBURG, MO. (Jan. 15, 2010) – Campus, and community leaders and organizations were recognized for their leadership and service to the community as UCM joined the Greater Warrensburg Area Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center in presentation of the 2010 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Service Awards. The awards were presented at the chamber’s monthly luncheon Friday, Jan. 15.
Robbie Robinson Service Award
Liz Kostas, social worker for the Warrensburg School District, was recipient of the 2010 Robbie Robinson Service Award. Kostas was recognized for her work with the families in the school district, providing assistance in a variety of ways through contacts and interaction with a variety of local and state agencies.
Lisa Irle and the Johnson County Historical Society received the Leadership Award. Irle, the curator of the Johnson County Historical Society Museum, and the leadership of the organization were instrumental in developing the coalition of local groups and individuals that were successful in bringing the Smithsonian “New Harmonies” exhibit to Warrensburg during the fall of 2009.
Shirley Briscoe received the Humanitarian Award. A member of the staff of the UCM Health Services, Briscoe has been instrumental in founding and fostering the growth of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Gospel Concert for the past 14 years.
Presenting the awards were UCM President Aaron Podolefsky and Eric Endsley, president of the Greater Warrensburg Area Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center board of directors. The awards are presented annually as a part of the university's annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration.
