Annual MLK Gospel Concert Planned for Jan. 16

WARRENSBURG, MO (Jan. 5, 2012) – The University of Central Missouri will celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with the 13th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Gospel Concert, planned for 7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, in Hendricks Hall.
The gospel concert is one of a variety of events that make up the university’s annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration. The concert will feature inspirational performances by the Praise Teams from Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church and First United Methodist Church of Warrensburg, the Jesus Saves Pentecostal Church Sanctuary Choir, and the UCM ABC Gospel Choir, as well as soloist Shirley Briscoe. The public is invited to attend free of charge.
This year’s concert is jointly sponsored by UCM’s Office of Community Engagement and the Performing Arts Series. For more information about the gospel concert contact the Peforming Arts Series at 660-543-4263.
The highlight of the 2012 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration will be the Freedom Scholarship Dinner at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, in the Elliott Union ballroom. Michelle Norris, award-winning journalist and co-host of NPR’s “All Things Considered” will be the featured speaker for the event.
