MLK Celebration Recognizes Campus and Community Leaders

WARRENSBURG, MO. (Jan. 12, 2010) – Campus, and community leaders and organizations will be recognized for their leadership and service to the community during UCM's 2010 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration.
UCM will join the Greater Warrensburg Area Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center in presentation of the awards at the chamber’s monthly luncheon at 11:45 a.m. Friday, Jan. 15, at the White Rose Pavilion.
The featured speaker for the luncheon will be Elizabeth Mendenhall, president of the Missouri Realtors Association.
Liz Kostas, social worker for the Warrensburg School District, is recipient of the 2010 Robbie Robinson Service Award. Kostas will be recognized for her work with the families in the school district, providing assistance in a variety of ways through contacts and interaction with a variety of local and state agencies.
Lisa Irle and the Johnson County Historical Society will receive the Leadership Award. Irle, the curator of the Johnson County Historical Society Museum, and the leadership of the organization were instrumental in developing the coalition of local groups and individuals that were successful in bringing the Smithsonian “New Harmonies” exhibit to Warrensburg during the fall of 2009.
Shirley Briscoe will receive the Humanitarian Award. A member of the staff of the UCM Health Services, Briscoe has been instrumental in founding and fostering the growth of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Gospel Concert since it was founded 11 years ago.
