WARRENSBURG, MO (May 19, 2011) – Missouri poet laureate David Clewell will be one more than 20 poets who will grace the stage during KMOS-TV’s Montserrat Poetry Festival Sunday afternoon, June 5 at Montserrat Vineyards, Montserrat, Mo.
This is the fourth year that the University of Central Missouri’s public television station, KMOS-TV, has been affiliated with the event, which is designed to give area writers an opportunity to showcase their works before a regional audience. Poets will come from many area communities, including Kansas City, Jefferson City, Warrensburg, Sedalia, Fulton, Bolivar and Columbia.
“We’ll have poetry to fit virtually any taste,” said Mark Pearce, KMOS-TV’s manager of community and corporate support. “We’ll have cowboy poetry, children’s poetry, the profound, the reflective, the insightful and the farcical.” Many of the presenters will have books, chapbooks or CD’s of their works available at the vineyard that day.
KMOS-TV is particularly pleased to present Clewell to a central Missouri audience. The St. Louis resident is the author of eight collections of poetry, and his work regularly appears in national magazines and journals, including Poetry, Harper’s, The Georgia Review, New Letters, The Kenyon Review, and Boulevard. Clewell’s poetry has also been featured in more than 50 anthologies.
The festival will be located in a covered outdoor setting with beverages, meals and snacks available. Music will be provided by Kansas City guitarist Kevin Hiatt. “It’s a casual, come-and-go event, so guests can arrive when they want and stay as long as they like,” said Pearce. “The most important thing is that everyone has a good time as the verses flow.”
