Mules Claim MIAA Title, Named to Host NCAA-II Regional Play

WARRENSBURG, MO (March 9, 2009) – After claiming the MIAA Post-Season Tournament championship Sunday in Kansas City, Mo., the Mules were named hosts and received the top seed for the NCAA-II South-Central Regional Tournament. The eight-team event will tip-off at noon Saturday, March 14, at the UCM Multipurpose Building.

The Mules' first round opponent on Saturday night at 6 p.m. will be the Javelinas of Texas A&M-Kingsville, a squad out of the Lone Star conference with a record of 19-10.
Tickets on Sale Now
Tickets go on sale Monday, March 9, at 9 a.m. at the UCM Multipurpose Building or by calling 660-543-4063. All UCM basketball season ticket holders have until 5 p.m. Thursday to purchase their seats. Beginning Friday morning, unclaimed season tickets will be released to the public.
Making History
The Mules made history Sunday by playing and winning their third consecutive overtime contest at the MIAA Post-Season Tournament, posting an 86-84 win over Missouri Western at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Missouri. The victory improves the Mules record to 26-4. It is the third conference tournament title in the last five seasons for the Mules (26-4), and fifth overall, putting them alone at the top among MIAA schools.
Tournament Honors
Junior Tremaine Luellen and senior De'Andre Byrd earned All-Tournament team honors, and senior Joe Young was named the MIAA Tournament MVP.
Banquet Tickets Available
UCM will host a Tournament Tip-Off Banquet for teams participating in the NCAA-II South Central Region Basketball Tournament at 7 p.m. Friday, March 13. in the Elliott Union ballroom.
UCM has 100 tickets available for fans wishing to attend the event. The cost is $15 per ticket, and they can be reserved by contacting Rhonda Crews at 660-543-4250 in Multipurpose Building Room 203. Tickets must be purchased by 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 11. There will be no walk-up ticket sales.
