Mules Claim Regional Title, Headed for NCAA-II Elite Eight

WARRENSBURG, MO (March 18, 2009) - Mules basketball captured the fourth NCAA-II regional title in men's basketball in school history Tuesday night at the Multipurpose Building as the No. 6 Mules blistered the No. 7 Southwest Baptist University Bearcats 98-63 to win the NCAA Division II South Central Region Championship.

Watts Named Regional MVP, Three to All-Region Team
Five Mules scored in double figures in the win as the Mules played their most complete game of the year in the biggest game of the season. Regional MVP Sanijay Watts had 22 points and 8 rebounds to lead the way. He was joined on the all-region tournament team by teammates Alex Moosman, De'Andre Byrd and Tremaine Luellen.
Anderson Sets New Record
Kim Anderson becomes the first coach in Mules basketball history to capture two regional titles and advance to two Elite Eights. The Mules have now won 19 games in a row at home dating back to last season.
Elite Eight Play Begins March 25
The 29-4 Mules will advance to the NCAA-II Elite Eight in Springfield, Mass. The No. 6 Mules will face the Atlantic Region Champions, Gannon University, at 6 p.m. eastern/5 p.m. central on Wednesday, March 25 at the Mass Mutual Center.
