WARRENSBURG, MO (March 28, 2014) – In cooperation with the community of Warrensburg, the University of Central Missouri is planning a welcome home pep rally and parade Monday, March 31 honoring the Mules basketball team and its success after earning a spot in the NCAA Division II National Championship Game.
The Mules will participate in the championship game in Evansville, Ind., at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 29, and are expected to return to campus sometime between 11 p.m. and midnight. UCM basketball fans are welcome to greet them upon their arrival at the Multipurpose Building parking lot.
To further honor the team, members of the campus community are working with the Greater Warrensburg Area Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center and UCM Athletics to plan a parade, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Monday, March 31 at the corner of Holden and Ming streets (just south of where Holden is closed.) The parade will travel south on Holden Street, turn right on Houx Street, and then head to the Multipurpose Building after turning right on Washington Street. A pep rally coordinated by Athletics follows at 6 p.m. in the Multipurpose Building.
The Mules sealed a spot in the championship game after grabbing a two-point lead in the final seconds of the national semi-finals Thursday evening, March 27 against Metro State, Denver, and hung on to win 71-69. The victory marked the first time in 30 years that a UCM basketball team earned a spot in the NCAA Division II National Championship. On Saturday, the Mules will battle the West Liberty University Hilltoppers from Wheeling, W.Va. for the national title.
The game will be broadcast to a national television audience on CBS. It can also be heard live on 1450 KOKO, 98.5 The Bar and warrensburgradio.com.
