Contact: Rob McCutcheon
WARRENSBURG, MO (May 29, 2008) - Mules baseball received a complete game pitching performance from Danny Potje on Wednesday night to advance to the final four at the NCAA-II Championships in Sauget, IL., posting a 5-1 victory over Shippensburg in an elimination round game.
Mules Play Mt. Olive in Semi-Finals
The Mules improve to 47-16 and will take on top-ranked Mount Olive in the first round of semi-final play Thursday afternoon, May 29, at 2:30 p.m. UCM will have to win Thursday to force a second semi-final game on Friday for the right to advance to Saturday's national championship game.
The Mules led from their first plate appearance Wednesday when Will Feil hit a lead off homerun in the bottom of the first inning. Brian McBryde would add three hits to the Mules attack and move into seventh place on the all-time NCAA-II career hit list with 311. But the night belonged to Potje, who came within one out of the shutout, and tossed his first nine-inning complete game as a Mules pitcher.
