WARRENSBURG - 10/25/2006 -
The University of Central Missouri's Friends of Music Society will host UCM music alumnus and former Warrensburg resident David Halen, the concertmaster of the Saint Louis Symphony, cellist Daniel Lee and UCM faculty member Mia Hynes in "An Evening of Chamber Music" at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30, in Hart Recital Hall.
David Halen
| With a bachelor's degree in music from UCM at age 19, Halen embarked on a remarkable career that includes being named the 1979 national strings winner at the Collegiate Artist Competition sponsored by the Music Teachers National Association. He studied as a Fulbright Scholar in Germany prior to earning a master's degree from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. He served as assistance concertmaster with the Houston Symphony prior to joining the Saint Louis Symphony in 1991 and being named concertmaster in 1995. |

Daniel Lee

Lee, principal cellist with the Saint Louis Symphony, garnered critical acclaim as a soloist in performances with major symphonies around the world, including the Cleveland and Philadelphia orchestras. As a teenager he was signed to an exclusive contract with Decca Records, and he was the recipient of the prestigious 2001 Avery Fisher Grant at age 19. He was named principal cellist of the Saint Louis Symphony in 2005. |
Mia Hynes
Hynes, who joined the UCM faculty in 1996, is associate professor of piano and piano pedagogy in UCM's Department of Music. She received her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from Indiana University, and the Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance and Literature degree from the Eastman School of Music. She has appeared as a soloist and chamber musician in venues throughout the United States, and garnered first prize in the 1995 National Federation of Music Clubs Young Artists Auditions. She also has performed live on National Public Radio's “Performance Today,” and frequently makes recital appearance with the Kansas City Symphony. |

Concert Season Continues
The UCM Friends of Music Society Concert Series continues with classical guitarist Petar Jankovic, who will perform Friday, Nov. 10, and Ralph Votapek, professor of piano and artist in residence emeritus at the Michigan State University School of Music, who will perform Monday, Feb. 5. All of the above performances are at 7:30 p.m. in the Hart Recital Hall. The Gala Scholarship Concert is the finale of the concert season at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 30. This concert is planned for UCM's Hendricks Hall.
Membership Provides Support for Music Programs
Become a member of the Friends of Music Society by making a donation to the UCM Foundation in support of music initiatives. Members may support not only the scholarship programs, but instrument and technology acquisition and maintenance, and appearances by guest artists and master teachers who will work with Central Missouri’s music students.
