PAS Season Opens with 'Charo in Concert'

WARRENSBURG, MO (Sept. 20, 2012) – Purchase your tickets now for the season opening performance of the University of Central Missouri’s Performing Art Series featuring world-renowned classical guitarist and entertainer Charo. The first show of the 25th anniversary PAS season is planned for 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, in Hendricks Hall.

Twice recognized by Guitar Player magazine as the best classical flamenco guitar player in the world, Charo has entertained audiences since the 1970s with her humor, enthusiasm and trademark expression, “cuchi-cuchi.” A musician, singer, comedienne, stage and screen performer, she also is recognized as an integral proponent of contemporary Latin music.
A frequent guest on many television talk shows, Charo received the Female Pop Album of the Year award for her platinum album, “Guitar Passion.” Following the success of “Guitar Passion,” she release “Gusto” in 1997, a dance album that includes many of her hits.
She returned to mainstream show production in Las Vegas in 2001, headlining in “Bravo” at the Venetian Hotel and Casino, a show that was named the “Best Variety Show in Las Vegas” by Time magazine. She currently is performing at the Riviera Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas while busily promoting her current CD, “Charo and Guitar.”
In addition to her public performance, Charo also will conduct a free master guitar class for high school and UCM students. Attendance is limited for the master class, so please contact the PAS box office to reserve a space.
