Pam Tillis to Open Performing Arts Series Season Sept. 23

WARRENSBURG, MO (June 29, 2011) – Platinum recording artist Pam Tillis will kick off the 2011-2012 season of the University of Central Missouri’s Performing Arts Series at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, in Hendricks Hall.

Tillis has been a force in country music since her first single hit the charts in the 1990s. With six number one hits, she has sold more than 6 million records. An accomplished songwriter, she has had her compositions performed by such artists as Chaka Khan, Martina McBride, Highway 101, Juice Newton and Conway Twitty. She was one of the first women in Nashville to produce her own album, and she received the Country Music Association’s Female Vocalist of the Year Award in 1994.

The 2011-2012 PAS season continues with a lineup of exciting shows that offer something for everyone, will all performances planned for UCM’s Hendricks Hall. The UCM Department of Theatre and Dance joins the PAS in presenting “Ribbitt,” an original children’s musical production that was the winner of the Theatre for Young Audiences National Playwriting Competition. School matinees are planned for 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., Thursday and Friday, Oct. 28-29.

Frank Ferrante brings show business legend Grouch Marx to life as he presents “An Evening with Groucho” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12. The fast-paced, two-act comedy is packed with Groucho’s best one-liners, along with songs, stories and inspired audience interaction. Ferrante’s two-day residency also includes a special screening of the classic Marx Brothers film “Duck Soup” and a comedy-improv master acting class for high school and college students.

Join the Osmond Brothers, who have been performing for audiences world-wide for 50 years, as the Performing Arts Series presents “The Osmonds’ Christmas Show” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17.

Recognized as music legends, they have sold millions of albums throughout their careers and have been named Best Vocal Group and Best Show in Branson.

The Performing Arts Series will host the 13th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Gospel Concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, 2012. The concert is part of the university’s annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration, which honors the legacy of the American civil right leaders. Admission for the gospel concert is free of charge.

“The Blue Brothers Revue” comes to UCM at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3. Sanctioned by Dan Aykroyd and the estate of the late John Belushi, the live review combines the comedy and hits from the original movie and precision that is the trademark of the Blue Brothers Band.

Clifford the Big Red Dog, the PBS children’s favorite, celebrates his 50th anniversary with kids of all ages Sunday and Monday, March 25-26. The show celebrates the values of Clifford’s BIG ideas, with the help of Clifford’s friends, Emily Elizabeth, Cleo and T-Bone. The all new musical adventure features songs and choreography that will make it a memorable family event. The public matinee performance is planned for 4 p.m. March 25, and the school performances are planned for March 26 at time to be announced.

World champion tap dancer and fiddler Stephanie Cadman  is featured in “Stephanie Cadman with Celtic Blaze” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 31. The performance includes Cadman’s virtuosi fiddling and step dancing, backed by a world-class, five piece band. The entire cast comes together to offer an exciting show featuring Canadian Ottawa Valley step dancing, classical and Celtic fiddling, musical theatre and rich vocals in a tapestry of original and modern Celtic traditions.

For the first time this year, season tickets also may be purchased online beginning July 1.. Individual show tickets will be available Aug. 1 and may be purchased through the box office or online.
