Contact: Mike Greife
WARRENSBURG, MO (March 6, 2012) – The Department of Music at the University of Central Missouri continues its Spring Piano Recital Series as Mia Hynes, professor of piano, presents “Duets I: An Evening of Piano with Mia Hynes and Friends.” The concert of piano music is planned for 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 12, in Hart Recital Hall.

Hines will be joined by three award-winning concert pianists and a violinist in a program that will include the “Sonata in G Major for Violin and Piano” by Johannes Brahms, the Rachmaninoff  “Vocalise,” and a barn-burning rendition of the “Carmen Fantasy,” a virtuosic exploration of the most famous themes from the opera by Bizet.

Hynes' guests on the program are concert artists who have appeared on stages throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. Pianists Tian Tian, Jon Hynes, and Rhoda Jeng are alumni of the Eastman School of Music. Violinist David Hays is currently the concertmaster of the Springfield Symphony and serves on the faculty of Missouri State University.

Future performances in the UCM Department of Music Spring Piano Series include:

  • March 15: New York City Preview Recital - A student-faculty collaboration which will also be performed in New York's historic Steinway Hall March 22.
  • April 13:   Duets II - Tian Tian, piano, and Amy Yi of the New World Symphony on violin.
  • April 15:   New Pieces Project Debut Recital - In fall 2011, the UCM student chapter of Music Teachers National Association hosted a competition for piano works suitable for piano students of intermediate-early advanced levels. More than 60 works from composers in the United States, Canada, Israel, Germany and the United Kingdom were submitted. This recital will premiere 10 of the best pieces from that competition.

These recitals are made possible by the generous support of the Warrensburg Friends of Music, the Warrensburg Area Music Teachers Association, the UCM Community Music Program, and the UCM Department of Music. For more information, visit www.ucmmusic.org.
