Pleiades and The Honors College Host Literary Events

WARRENSBURG, MO (Jan. 30, 2009) - UCM's Pleiades: A Journal of New Writing will host three big literary events Feb. 3-5 as part of the Pleiades/Honors College Visiting Writers Series.
A reading by fiction writer Benjamin Percy is planned for 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb 3 in the UCM Gallery of Art and Design, 217 E. Clark. Percy is the author of two critically acclaimed books of short fiction Refresh, Refresh (Graywolf Press, 2008) and The Language of the Elk (Carnegie Mellon University Press, 2007). He also is the recipient of many major national awards, including the Whiting Award and The Paris Review's George Plimpton Prize.The event is sponsored by Sigma Tau Delta.
Poet Lynell Edwards will present a reading at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb 4, also in the Gallery of Art and Design. Edwards is the author of two poetry books, The Highwayman's Wife and The Farmer's Daughter. Her poetry appears widely in American journals and she is a regular book reviewer for Pleiades and The Georgia Review. The reading is funded by The Honors College.
Wayne Miller and Phong Nguyen
Poet Wayne Miller and fiction writer Phong Nguyen, both UCM faculty members, will offer readings of their work at 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb , at La Sous Terre, 112 N. Holden Street, Warrensburg. Both Miller and Nguyen are editors at Pleiades. Miller's second book, The Book of Props, soon will be published by Milkweed Editions. Phong's short stories appear widely in national magazines like Boulevard, The Iowa Review, and The North America Review.
