WARRENSBURG, MO (Aug. 18, 2014) – The Performing Arts Series at the University of Central Missouri opens its 2014-2015 season with the annual Provost’s Faculty Showcase, presented by the Department of Music at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, in Hart Recital Hall.
Titled Collaboration, the event will feature the many talents of the Department of Music faculty. As many as nine musicians will perform a single piece during the program, which includes compositions by faculty members David Aaberg, Lee Hartman and Eric Honour. Honour’s composition will showcase how computer technology makes it possible for musicians to collaborate with themselves using the computer and peripherals as a musical instrument.
Also featured will be visual art from the Faculty Art Exhibit on display at UCM’s Gallery of Art and Design. The program will draw parallels between the music performances and the visual art on display.
The public is invited to attend a free pre-concert presentation, Do You Hear What I Hear?–an Introductory Note, at 6:30 p.m. in Utt 100, presented by Lifelong Learning at UCM. Musicologist Allison Robbins will provide an explanatory prelude to the music that will be played in the Provost’s Faculty Showcase.
Free tickets will be available beginning Wednesday, Aug. 20, at the Office of the Performing Arts in Administration 196; the Department of Music in Utt 109; the Office of the Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences in Martin 126; and the Department of Theatre in Martin 113.
