WARRENSBURG, MO (Nov. 22, 2010) – With the opening of the new Student Recreation and Wellness Center scheduled for early January 2011, the University of Central Missouri will implement a student-initiated fee to pay for the facility’s operations beginning with the spring semester.
The $2.75 per semester hour fee was approved by UCM students as the result of a referendum that the Student Government Association made possible during spring 2007. Students voted in support of fee increases to cover construction and operation of the facility, a measure which was supported by a vote of the Board of Governors at the recommendation of the SGA. The $2.75 fee is in addition to a fee of $7 per semester hour students began paying for construction during the 2008-09 academic year.
According to Donna Bodenhamer, director of student accounts in the Office of Student Financial Services, the fee to support operations will be assessed on student bills that will be processed by her office beginning the week of Dec. 6. The first bill of the semester will be mailed to students at their home address.
The university is nearing completion of the new 69,000-square-foot facility, which is located on the east side of the Morrow-Garrison complex. Costing approximately $21.5 million, it will include amenities such as a fitness area, weight room, basketball courts, indoor track and multipurpose area.
