Roberts Selected to Attend Executive Leadership Academy

WARRENSBURG, MO (March 17, 2011) – Betty J. Roberts, vice president for administration and finance at the University of Central Missouri, was among 25 Founding Fellows to attend the inaugural Executive Leadership Academy Feb. 28-March 2, 2011, in San Antonio, Texas.
The Executive Leadership Academy was co-organized by the University of California-Berkeley Center for Studies in Higher Education and the American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education, Inc., to train leaders of colleges and universities to guide institutions in an increasingly multicultural global environment. The academy is designed to enable persons of all backgrounds who may be interested in appointments to executive positions in higher education.
“This academy reflects a unique combination of organizers and is very timely, in view of both the increasingly multicultural aspects of higher education and the turbulent and changing times for higher education,” said Judson King, director of the CSHE and a former provost for the University of California system and for the Professional Schools and Colleges.
Academy participants discussed the fundamental and rapid changes in higher education due to the growth of information technology, the globalization of higher education, diminished public funding of higher education and rapid demographic change. The Executive Leadership Academy provided the opportunity for participants to be trained to serve as executive officers in higher education throughout the world.
A faculty team of senior level higher education executives and scholars from throughout the nation, led discussions of executive leadership models; the latest research-based information about multicultural competencies; budget and financial management; strategic, academic, and campus planning; shared governance models; faculty recruitment and retention and the tenure and post-tenure process; student life and student success; fundraising and resource development; and the impact of technology on the future of higher education.
