WARRENSBURG, MO (Oct. 8, 2009) – UCMi will celebrate Middle East cultures as it hosts the 10th Annual Saudi Arabia Day Friday, Oct. 16. The public is invited to attend the reception from 3:30-5 p.m. in the South Read and Relax Area of the James C. Kirkpatrick Library on the UCM campus.
Honored guests for the event will be Paul and Colleen Nance; their son and daughter-in-law, Mark Nance and Jane Depew; State Senator David Pearce, and State Representative Denny Hoskins..
Saudi Arabian students attending UCM will provide traditional foods native to their culture for the event. Since the first Saudi Arabia Day was celebrated in 2000, UCM has sought to bring about understanding through education and discussion among its Saudi and Muslim students, international students, the campus and surrounding community.
Key to that goal is the availability of the Paul and Colleen Nance Middle East Collection of artifacts from Saudi Arabia. This gift from the Nances to UCM brought their rare collection to UCM’s Arthur F. McClure Archives and University Museum in 2002.
