UCM Hosts Concert by U.S. Air Force Starlifter Ensemble
Contact Mike Greife
WARRENSBURG, MO (Feb. 25, 2010) – The UCM Department of Music will host a performance by Starlifter, a component of the United State Air Force Band of Mid-America, at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 4, in Hendricks Hall.
The group of seven musicians presents a fast-paced, high-energy program featuring the best of American pop music, from the Big Band sound of the 1940s to the most current sounds at the top of today’s music charts. They will perform at UCM as part of the U.S. Air Force Public Affairs mission.
Starlifter takes its name from the C-141 Starlifter transport jet. In addition to performances in venues across the country, the group has deployed as part of the Air Expeditionary Forces to Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Afghanistan, Kyrgzstan and Djibouti. In 2009 the group deployed on a Humanitarian and Civic Assistance mission with the U.S. Naval Hospital Ship “Comfort,” performing for more than 34,000 people in more than 90 performances in Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Antigua, Colombia, Panama, El Salvador and Nicaragua.
The performance is free and open to the public. For more information about the Hendricks Hall performance, contact the UCM Department of Music at 660-543-4530. Learn more about Starlifter and the United States Air Force Band of Mid America at www.bandofmidamerica.af.mil.
