Recital Offers Preview of Upcoming Steinway Hall Performances

WARRENSBURG, MO (April 4, 2008) – Students and faculty from UCM's Department of Music will present a special Steinway Hall Preview Recital at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 7, in Hart Recital Hall. The recital is a glimpse of the program the faculty and students will present in Steinway Hall in New York City May 13.
New York Recital Debut for UCM Student Musicians
Performers from UCM have been invited to join other representatives of All-Steinway Schools for the Steinway Hall performance, marking the New York recital debut for the students. Ten UCM piano students will be accompanied by three faculty members as they travel to New York for the event.
Public Invited to Attend
The April 7 preview recital in Hendricks Hall is free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted to help defray travel costs for students making the trip to New York.
The program for the Steinway Hall Preview Recital will include performances by Richard Smith, professor of piano, and students Veronica Snow, Rachel Lehenbauer, Sarah Stoltzfus, Cynthia Groff, Tsai Celia, Elaina Toben, Tom Hunt, and Seth Bowling, performing selections by Liszt, Bach, Schubert, Debussy, Ravel, Chopin, Vine, Donizetta, Scriabin and Ginastera.
All-Steinway Designation Creates Opportunity
UCM earned the All-Steinway designation in December 2006 following the addition of 22 new Steinway and Boston pianos for the Department of Music, including a new 9-foot concert grand piano for the Hart Recital Hall, to the 26 Boston pianos owned by the department.
A formal presentation of the All-Steinway School designation was presented to UCM President Aaron Podolefsky by Steinway and Sons, Inc., officials in September, 2007, during a concert by pianist Antonio Pompa-Baldi. UCM currently is one of only 84 colleges, universities and conservatories across the United States and abroad to hold the designation.
