UCM Officials Urge Campus to Stay Informed About National Health Issue
Contact: Jeff Murphy
WARRENSBURG, MO (April 30, 2009) – Concern about swine flu is growing in the United States and internationally. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and the World Health Organization are working closely with health officials throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico, as well as other countries reporting isolated cases of the swine flu, to provide guidance and technical support to address this emerging health threat. While there is no immediate cause for alarm on campus, UCM Public Safety and University Health Center personnel are in direct contact with county and state health officials to ensure that the institution and the community are prepared to address issues related to the flu, particularly if there are signs that the influenza virus is spreading into the state.
As the number of cases and states affected change daily, the goal is to minimize the impact of the outbreak on people’s health. The University Health Center urges faculty, staff and students to practice their own personal protection safety measures and to help in the prevention of the spread of disease and illness.
