WARRENSBURG, MO (March 31, 2011) – The University of Central Missouri campus group Students Advocating Gender Equality (S.A.G.E.) will host Take Back the Night 2011 from 7-10 p.m. Wednesday, April 6.
Take Back the Night is an international movement to combat the fear women have about walking alone at night due to increased violence and sexual assault. This free event in the Elliott Union atrium will feature performances by the local bands I Am Nation and The Bovine Arrival to fuel the energy for this activist event.
Activities will include a march around campus and the opportunity to sign a petition requesting additional funding for processing the backlog of rape kits. S.A.G.E. will also be collecting donations for the local Adult Abuse Survival House in exchange for t-shirts and buttons. Support and resources for those affected by violence or sexual assault will be available at the event.
The Center for Violence and Substance Abuse Prevention, the University Counseling Center, and the Center for Women’s and Gender Studies are sponsoring the event. Keynote speakers will include university staff and representatives from sponsoring offices.
