Teach-In on Sustainable Solutions Planned for Feb. 24

WARRENSBURG, MO (Feb. 17, 2011) –The University of Central Missouri will host the third annual Teach-In On Sustainable Solutions, formerly the National Teach-In on Global Warming Solutions, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 24 in the  Elliott Union. The event is free and open to the public.

The Teach-In will be made up of educational sessions throughout the day, each lasting 45 minutes to an hour. The sessions will focus on the areas of business; science and world view; art and design; and government and public policy. Speakers will range from university faculty, elected officials, experts in their fields of study, and students.

Speaking commitments have been received from:

  • U.S. EPA-Region 7
  • Missouri Department of Conservation
  • Gould Evans Architects; Burns and McDonnell
  • Ripple Glass; City of Kansas City-Solid Waste Division
  • KC Habitat Restore
  • City of Lee’s Summit-Environmental Services
  • City of Sedalia-Public Works
  • Systec Industries/Lafarge Concrete
  • Kansas City “green” artist Wil Lala
  • the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
  • Sodexo
  • Ameren Missouri.

Representatives from these companies and others will provide information about sustainable initiatives. Ten UCM faculty members have volunteered to host educational sessions on topics ranging from safety science to theatre, including topics such as “Social Justice and the Aftermath of Hurricane Katrina” and “Visualizing Tomorrow: Growing Our Future Today.”
