WARRENSBURG, MO (Oct. 18, 2013) – The Performing Arts Series at the University of Central Missouri presents “When Words Collide: Scenes, Swords, and a Pair of Steinways,” the second in its new Fanfare Series of performances, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1 in Hart Recital Hall.
The piano duo of Tian Tian and Mia Hynes, member of the piano faculty in the UCM Department of Music, will perform virtuoso arrangements of music for two pianos from “Carmen”; the Liszt “Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2,” known to cartoon watchers the world over as “The Tom and Jerry Rhapsody”; Aram Khatchaturian’s fiery "Sabre Dance”; and, for Disney fans, a melange of waltzes from “Mary Poppins,” “ Snow White,” and “Beauty and the Beast.”
Joining the Tian and Hynes duo onstage will be UCM faculty members Stella Roden and Jacob Sentgeorge, who will join forces for arias and duets from Gounod’s “Faust,” Verdi’s “La Traviata,” and Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly.”
The Tian and Hynes piano duo was formed in 2012 and performed to enthusiastic acclaim at the UCM President’s Gala at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in Kansas City, Mo., earlier this year.
Tickets for the performance are available from the PAS box office, Administration 100, by calling 660-543-8888, and at the door.
