Missouri Girls State Coming to UCM

WARRENSBURG - 06/20/2007- The American Legion Auxiliary Girls State will bring 750 Missouri high school girls to the campus of the University of Central Missouri June 24-30.
Sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary Department of Missouri, the program provides hands-on experience in government and leadership through participation in a mock state government.
Sen. Claire McCaskill
Government officials are among the speakers who will join the week of activities. U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill will open the 2007 session at as keynote speaker at 7:45 p.m. Sunday, June 24.
Rep. Jack Goodman
Rep. Jack Goodman, assistant majority floor leader of the Missouri House of Representatives and representative of Missouri's 132nd District, will speak at 7:30 p.m. Monday, June 25.
State Treasurer Sarah Steelman
Missouri State Treasurer Sarah Steelman speaks at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, June 26. Missouri Governor Matt Blunt will address the general session at 7:30 p.m.
U.S. Attorney Catherine Hanaway
U.S. Attorney Catherine Hanaway speaks at the 10:30 a.m. assembly Wednesday, June 27, State Auditor Susan Montee will speak at 1:30 p.m., and Jason Klumb will speak at 7:45 p.m.
Mindy Mazur
Mindy Mazur, chief of staff for Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan, joins Girls State citizens for the general assembly at 10:45 a.m. Thursday, June 28 to certify the statewide elections. A panel discussion on the "Women Behind the Scenes" is planned for 1 p.m.
Judge Ann Meslow
Judge Ann Meslow will administer the oath of office to the newly elected 2007 Missouri Girls State officials during inauguration ceremonies planned for 7:15 p.m. Friday evening, June 29.
All sessions will be conducted in Hendricks Hall.
