Ceremony and Blood Drive Honors Those Who Served on Veterans Day

WARRENSBURG, MO (Oct. 23, 2013) – The University of Central Missouri is the setting for two special activities Monday, Nov. 11 in honor of individuals who have fought for their country. Women who served in the United States military will be honored during a joint ceremony, “Honoring Our Women Veterans,” planned for
11 a.m. in the Multipurpose Building. Also planned the same day is the second annual Military Appreciation Blood Drive, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Elliott Student Union, Rooms 238 and 240.
The ceremony in the Multipurpose Building is open to everyone, and will feature remarks by Lt. Col. Beth L. Makros, commander of the 394th Combat Training Squadron at Whiteman Air Force Base. Area women veterans who were involved in any branch of military service have been invited to attend and will be given special recognition during the event. Women veterans should pre-register for the event by sending an email with name, branch of service and number of years served to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Makros received her commission from the U.S. Air Force Academy in May 1998 as a distinguished graduate. As a senior pilot with more than 1,500 flight hours, she has served as a director of operations, instructor and evaluator pilot in the B-2 and T-38 aircraft, B-1 pilot, chief of training and executive officer.
The Veterans Day ceremony is being planned by UCM’s Office of Military and Veteran Services, UCM ROTC, UCM Student Veterans Organization, Missouri Veterans Commission, American Legion Post 131 and VFW Post 2513 in Warrensburg, and the Greater Warrensburg Area Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center. Lunch will provided for pre-registered honorees immediately following the program at the American Legion Post 131.
Attendees should access the Multipurpose Building parking lot using Warren Street and enter through the east doors of the building.
Individuals are encouraged to help save lives by donating blood during Veterans Day. Appointments are preferred, but walk-ins are welcome. All presenting donors will receive a coupon for a free taco and a Red Cross T-shirt while supplies last.
