WARRENSBURG, MO (Aug. 31, 2011) – Looking for an experienced leader to strengthen overall advancement and opportunities in development, alumni relations, and external relations, the University of Central Missouri is turning to Jason S. Drummond, Olathe, KS. Drummond, who currently serves as executive director of the Freeman Foundation in Joplin, today was named vice president for development and executive director of the UCM Foundation.
University President Charles Ambrose announced the appointment. He noted that Drummond will begin his new duties, effective Sept. 30.
“It is important for the administrative leadership team to include a development professional who can help us continue to create a vibrant infrastructure for fundraising, while also building strong relationships with our many stakeholders,” Ambrose said. “Dr. Drummond brings at least 14 years of such experience to this position. I am confident that, with his contributions, UCM can secure philanthropic support that we need to meet our strategic goal to better serve students. We’re excited for him to join us.”
Drummond has served at his current post with the Freeman Health System since 2010, providing overall leadership for development operations for a 404-bed hospital system. His duties there include responsibility for a giving program that generates nearly $2 million a year, while also serving as a member of the senior leadership team and as administrative liaison to the Board of Directors’ Philanthropy Committee. During his tenure, he has increased giving by 29 percent and the number of donors by 42 percent.
Drummond said he is honored to join UCM, and added that he is “looking forward to serving alongside Dr. Ambrose and working together to accomplish a bold vision on behalf of the university.”
He also expressed his appreciation to everyone who participated in the search process, noting, “I met some amazing people – deans and faculty members who are highly engaged in their work and passionate about providing the very best to their students, and staff members who were excited about their role in the university and how they can continue to support and build upon the mission.”
One of his first goals as a university leader will be to begin making connections with the university community, as well as alumni, parents, members of the local community and Kansas City metropolitan area. He hopes to emulate the type of servant leadership he observed under Gary Duncan, his CEO at the Freeman Health System, who assisted the community after a devastating tornado struck the community earlier this year.
Prior to beginning work for Freeman, Drummond served from 2007-2010 as vice president for university advancement/executive director of the MidAmerica Nazarene University Foundation in Olathe, KS. He was responsible for the management and coordination of development, planned giving, annual giving, advancement services, alumni services, and grant development, as well as the MNU Foundation, university-wide marketing and public relations, and the intercollegiate athletics program.
His career also includes serving as assistant director of the University of Virginia Athletics Foundation in Charlottesville, VA, where he assisted in launching and coordinating a $300 million capital campaign; director of the Pioneer Athletic Association at MidAmerica Nazarene University; and an investment adviser for Edward D. Jones, Olathe, KS.
Drummond in a graduate of MidAmerica Nazarene University, having earned Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations degrees. He also studied at the University of Kansas, Lawrence, where he completed his Master of Science in Education and Doctor of Education in Higher Education Administration degrees.
