Sports and Recreation Activities
Intramurals attempts to offer something for everyone on the UCM campus. We have one of the most extensive Intramural programs that you will find anywhere. Annually, more than 8000 students, faculty, and staff participate in some form of fun team or individual sports activity. This year should prove just as exciting as we continue the popular events of the past and add new activities.
Benefits of Participating in Intramurals
- develop skills
- better maintain health and fitness
- release stress through vigorous activity
- enhance socialization by meeting/playing with/against others
- promote sportsmanship, cooperation, team spirit, and to provide friendly competition
- HAVE FUN!
Intramural events offer the opportunity to have a great time through sports. The events have participation for men, women, and in most cases for co-rec play. Teams decide which level of competition that best suits their skill levels, either "A" (Competitive) or "B" (Recreational). Teams are made in many different ways. Some include clubs, organizations, fraternities, sororities, residence halls or floors, etc. A large number of teams are independents, meaning they are not apart of any specific group; just a bunch of friends that want to play sports. Intramurals are designed for league play with usually one game per week, followed by playoffs at the end of the regular season for the top two teams in each league.
Most Intramural games and participation take place late in the afternoon or in the evening. Teams provide when preferred schedules and intramurals attempts to accommodate these schedules.
