Getting to Know the Speakers
Dr. Shari Bax
Dr. Robynn Kuhlmann
Dr. Kuhlmann’s fields of study are American political institutions and political behavior. Her primary fields of expertise are state and local politics, voting, and elections. Dr. Kuhlmann is currently examining how state institutions can influence citizen political participation. She regularly presents her research at the Western and Southern Political Science Association Conference and has a substantial background in quantitative research methods. Additional areas of her research are civic inclusion, minority threat, and third parties in the American states. Dr. Kuhlmann is also the State Government Internship Coordinator for the Department of Government, International Studies and Languages.
Dr. Paul Polychronis
Dr. Polychronis is Assistant Director of University Health Services for Counseling and Psychological Services at the University of Central Missouri. He is a licensed psychologist and a Diplomate in Counseling Psychology, American Board of Professional Psychology. He serves on the Board of Directors and Board of Accreditation for the International Association of Counseling Services and also on the Missouri Eating Disorders Council.
Dr. Jo Koehn
Jo Lynne Koehn, Ph.D., is the BKD Distinguished Professor of Accounting at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Mo. She teaches a variety of accounting and finance courses and has published numerous articles related to accounting practice. In her leisure time she enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading, and traveling.
Currently teaches at Johnson County Community College in the Accounting faculty.
As Director of International Student and Scholar Services, Heather oversees all services and programming for international students and scholars and serves as an advisor concerning legal, cultural, academic, and personal concerns. She leads international student orientations and acts as staff sponsor of the International Student Organization. She promotesalumni development (including the formation of international alumni chapters) and the creation of scholarship opportunities for international students.
Darinda is Vice President of Patient Care Services/Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) with 15 years of diverse clinical nursing experience and proven success at leading and transitioning cultural change, Darinda has served in a variety of leadership capacities. Most notably, she served as Interim Associate Chief Nursing Officer, Interim Chief Nursing Officer and Director of Critical Care Services at HCA Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo; Director of Acute Inpatient Services at Truman Medical Center Lakewood in Kansas City, Mo and Clinical Nurse at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo.
Susan is President/CEO of Western Missouri Medical Center. Among her accomplishments as Interim President/CEO, Susan facilitated outreach efforts into the greater community in support of generating strategic partnerships; implemented an internal coaching program to create an aligned culture accountable to achieving clinical, operational, and financial outcomes; and partnered with local Medical Staff providers in the implementation of the hospitalist program. With more than 25 years of progressive experience leading and transitioning healthcare organizations, Susan has served in a variety of leadership capacities. In November 2011, Susan joined WMMC as the Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer. Prior to joining WMMC, Susan served as Senior Clinical Strategist at Cerner Corporation in Kansas City, Mo; Chief Nursing Officer at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, Mo; and Chief Nursing Officer at Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park, Kansas.
Originally from San Jose, Costa Rica, Tammy moved throughout the U.S. with her parents to San Antonio, Texas; Winchester, Virginia; and Lakewood, Ohio. Tammy graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice and from Webster University with a Master’s degree in Public Administration. She served in the U. S. Air Force as a security police officer from 1980-1991. An entrepreneur at heart, she and her husband, Steve opened Pack N Mail shipping services in 1992. She has been with the Greater Warrensburg Area Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Center since Oct 1, 1995, serving as the President. She is a graduate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Institute for Organizational management program and holds the designation of IOM. She and her husband Steve have two sons, Kris and Brad.
Kelly manages the Small Business and Technology and Development Center business applications and works closely with small business owners and entrepreneurs on cash flow analysis, funding and business plan development. Ms. Dyer has extensive experience working with small business owners and entrepreneurs as evidenced by her previous work experience. Ms. Dyer previously worked at the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), where she was a farm loan officer trainee. Her primary duties were loan evaluation and servicing. Prior to working at the USDA, she was the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for Alma Meats. In her capacity as CFO, she directed the overall financial and accounting plans of the company and assisted in the development of the company’s website. She is a highly motivated and very talented addition to the SBTDC.
Keira works as Career Development Coordinator for the Liberal Arts, Fine Arts, Humanities, Criminal Justice, Sociology and Social Work majors at the University of Central Missouri. She assists students in the career development process, including marketing of skills and assisting with the entire job search process. She works closely with faculty and employers to help students make a successful transition from UCM to their chosen career field. She has a Bachelors degree in English from Kansas State University, and a Masters degree in Technical Communication from Oklahoma State University. In addition to having a professional background in career services, she has worked as an academic advisor, a lecturer of communication courses, and an on-site trainer for industry professionals. She joined UCM career services in August of 2009.
Tina Church-Hockett is the Director of Graduate Studies at the University of Central Missouri. She earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees at UCM and recently completed a graduate certificate in Women, Gender and Sexuality. Currently, she is working on her doctoral degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis with the University of Missouri.
Marlisa is Volunteer Coordinator for Shawnee Community Services in Kansas City, Missouri. The Shawnee Community Services is a non-governmental organization directly delivering services to the less fortunate. Additional information is available at http://www.scsks.org/.
Kathy Martin is President of KTS1 Inc, servicing the textile industry with research and product development, accessing both domestic and global manufacturing. With over 35 years of business management, including start-up and launch of successful small businesses and large corporate endeavors, she has worked aggressively with the US government, other industries and individuals in determining their needs and negotiating contracts. She sits on a state workforce task board, Advisory Board for UCM entrepreneurship and Social Enterprise program and works with local community fundraising events. Supporting entrepreneurs is a priority of her company.
Tara owns SSABLE--Servicing and Saving for A Better Life Everyday--where she prepare taxes at no cost for low-income and other disadvantaged individuals. She is currently an Innovative Data Systems intern and a student at UCM. She has been involved in the Honors College and has been a McNair Scholar student. Her degree is in Entrepreneurship and Social Enterprise and Marketing Minor. She is a National Society of Collegiate Scholar.
Owner of Geek Details. Geek Details was started in October 2008 and has organically grown into the business it is today. The store sells online and at geek/gamer/scifi conventions. Amanda designs, manufactures, and retails handmade products. It started on Etsy and now sells exclusively on Amazon and on her own website. Her business has been noted in Glamour Magazine and will be in the German Cosmo in April. Greek Details has also been in buzzfeed, apartment therapy, the Wall Street Journal, the Huffington Post, Lauren Conrad’s Friday favorites and other media.
