Special Facilities and Services Available for Disabled Students
Students with disabilities appropriately verified through the Office of Accessibility Services (OAS), may utilize accommodations for achieving equal opportunity in education. Students may receive academic accommodations for equal opportunity in the classroom, e.g. reader for exam, private testing, extended time. Central maintains assistive computer technology at OAS, in the Ward Edwards computer lab, and in the James C. Kirkpatrick Library and computer lab, including dictation software, screen readers, scanner, CCTV, large monitors, and electronic braille embosser.
Central's campus is accessible for students, employees, and visitors with disabilities, including the following: assistive listening devices in all major auditoriums; lifts in the Morrow and Multi-Purpose swimming pools; elevators and accessible restrooms in all academic and administrative buildings, sports facilities, and student union; ramps, curb cuts, and handicap parking across campus; sign language interpreters for academic purposes and for campus activities (with 48 hours advance notice); and accessible rooms in campus housing, including: Ellis Hall; Fitzgerald Hall; Houts-Hosey Hall; South Yeater Hall; Panhellenic (sororities); Greenwood apt; Central Village apt; Hawkins apt; Foster-Knox apt; and University Conference Center (both the area for students and the area for visitors).
