Communication Disorders and Social Work
Charles R. Shapiro, Ph.D., A.C.S.W., L.C.S.W., is an Associate Professor of Social Work. Dr. Shapiro has served as a past Director of the Social Work Program and as a past Coordinator of Field Education. He received a B.A. in philosophy and M.S.W. from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and a Ph.D. from the University of Denver. Dr. Shapiro's work experiences include medical social work, clinical social work in a military setting, clinical social work in a family service agency, and clinical social work (group work), in private practice, in the field of domestic violence. He has served as chair of accreditation site-visit teams for the Council on Social Work Education. Dr. Shapiro's research interests lie in the areas of domestic violence, aging, and mental health.
