Support Staff Council Minutes
April 12, 2011
1:30 P.M. - UN 235
Attendees: Brenda Dooley, Joyce Stephens, Cindy Merryfield, Diana Summers, Pam Bennett, Suzan Brown, Ginny McTighe, Tia Milburn, Bettie Moore, Virdia Stevens, Keri Busker, Jo Greife, Victoria Swope, Sharon Brinton, Lisa Schmidt, Cathy Clear, Patty Cary, and Sandy Christ.
Brenda Dooley, Support Staff Council President, called the April meeting to order, welcomed those attending and asked that we go around the table and introduce ourselves.
Brenda asked if there were any corrections or additions to be made to the March minutes other than those noted via email. The date of the Survival Adult Abuse Girls Night Out event was questioned. Although the April 28th date correction had been made, it was determined that the final email were the minutes prior to the change. Brenda said she would make sure the corrected set was saved. Bettie Moore made a motion to approve the minutes and Cindy Merryfield seconded the motion. Brenda called for a voice vote and the March minutes were approved with the correction.
Treasurer Diana Summers reported the Support Staff Council balance is at $1,386.70 which includes $200.00 from Administration & Finance for the Support Staff Breakfast. The Survival Adult Abuse Center fund balance is $2,189.54. The Support Staff Council Education Award had March gift revenues of $14.50 and bake sale proceeds of $273.45 bringing the current balance to $777.98.
Administrative Liaison Report
Sharon Brinton, reporting for Dr. Betty Roberts, Administrative Liaison, asked if anyone had any specific questions. She encouraged those present to contact their building managers if there are projects that need to be scheduled with facilities. The Administrative Review Rapid Response Team continues to make progress. It is anticipated that no one will be let go but some may be moved to different positions. If you have questions, Sharon suggested that you contact your HR specialist. Attrition will account for future cost savings. The UCM budget should be finalized in May and approved at the June Board of Governors meeting.
Professional Staff Council Report
Lisa Schmidt, Vice Chairman of the Professional Staff Council gave a brief review of their March meeting.
The Board of Governors did approve a 2% across the board salary increase. Sharon Brinton added there is an $800 minimum increase.
Lisa asked that we watch for a '"Fair Tax" proposition that would have the state move from an income tax to a sales tax revenue base. Someone suggested to please read all opinions and use due diligence to be truly informed.
The Professional Staff Council elections should be final by noon today. New officers and the JP Mees award winner will be announced at the Professional Staff Breakfast on Thursday morning, April 14. Lisa will also attend our breakfast to take pictures.
Lisa said that Carla Underwood from HR spoke to their group about the "Points to Blue" program. A brief discussion was had on how to use it and its benefits. 2009 was the first year it was available. Most of us have just learned about it recently.
