Support Staff Council Minutes
January 11, 2011
1:30 P.M. - UN 235
Attendees: Brenda Dooley, Joyce Stephens, Pam Bennett, Bettie Moore, Jo Greife, Victoria Swope, Keri Busker, Trisha Boyd and Rick Dixon .
Brenda Dooley, Support Staff Council President, called the January meeting to order and welcomed those attending.
The November minutes will be presented for approval at the February meeting along with the January minutes.
Treasurer Diana Summers was unable to attend. Brenda noted that $700.00 had been spent for 7 - $100.00 gift cards for Survival residents from the Foundation Survival Adult Abuse Center fund in December. Our half of the Sodexo bill has also been paid from the Support Staff Council fund for the December Community Coffee with the charge for the hot cranberry drink removed. The drink was either non-existent or not well marked as no one recalls it being available.
Administrative Liaison Report
Dr. Betty Roberts, Administrative Liaison, nor one of her representatives was able to attend the January meeting.
Professional Staff Council Report
Lisa Schmidt, Vice Chairman of the Professional Staff Council was absent.
Committee Reports – None.
Brenda announced that a Bylaws Committee has been selected. The committee members have been charged with reviewing the current Bylaws and to make recommendations primarily but not limited to changes in our Executive Officers structure as previously suggested by the Election Committee. They should be ready to present their recommendations at either the March or April meeting.
Brenda reported the Support Staff Council and the Bargaining Unit will have 60 Minutes with the President on Tuesday, February 1st at 2:30 pm in UN 236.
Brenda also reported she had an individual contact her with a request that we be notified of "confirmed open" when a work day was questionable due to inclement weather. A lengthy discussion followed in regard to cell phone messages and office phone alerts. It appears office phones only blinked with the alert message when another message had been left. The alert message did not detail the date/day of the message causing additional confusion. Although instructions were given to get rid of the alert message, most had difficulty doing so. The final part of the alert message instructed the individual to hang up and did not give instructions for obtaining other phone messages. Brenda said she would talk to Tammy Shanks or Kathy Maham in Telecommunications.
Overall, it was felt the early closing and delayed opening had been handled well (better than in the past.) It was suggested offices be aware of individuals who do not have access to email and cell phone coverage where they live to have someone in place to contact them with notifications.
There was some discussion on time sheet reporting for the early close and delayed opening. Rick Dixon cleared up some questions and stated an email with instructions was being drafted to send out via GroupWise.
Trisha Boyd asked for recommendations of known students available for work study hours. She also offered to be a contact/liaison for offices with questions in regard to international students.
Support Staff Drawing
Victoria Swope (Vikki) won a Mazzio’s free lunch card.
The meeting adjourned at 2:00 pm.
Our next meeting will be February 8, 2011 - 1:30 p.m. – UN 235.
