UCM Receives NSF Grant for Scholarships
As a generation of baby-boomers nears retirement age, the need for new professionals entering the fields of mathematics, computer science and actuarial science continues to grow. UCM's Department of Mathematics and Computer Science received a boost toward meeting that need with a $499,520 grant from the National Science Foundation that will provide annual scholarships for UCM students.

Freshman Class Sets New Decade Record
The largest freshman class in more than a decade contributed to a two percent jump overall in undergraduate students at the University of Central Missouri for the fall 2006 semester. "We are excited about the quantity, quality and diversity of this year's class," said Matt Melvin, assistant provost for enrollment management.

Championships, Mock Shows Occupy Students
It's been a good show season for the UCM cattle show team. UCM's Simmental bulls earned championship awards at the Ozark Empire Fair, the Missouri State Fair and the American Royal. UCM agriculture students also are learning the basics of handling and showing cattle as participants in the "Pick a Heifer" program through the Agriculture Club in UCM's Department of Agriculture.
