Kid's Day

KMOS Kids Day

Thanks to all who joined us in the Holiday Inn Executive Center in 2011. We do not have a Kids Day scheduled for 2012, but invite the children in your life to watch KMOS-TV, channel 6.1 weekdays and weekend mornings for fun and educational programs!

About KMOS Kids Day

Kids Day was designed as a free, family-oriented day of literacy-based, interactive learning centers designed around the concepts of PBS family viewing, reading and hands-on experiences and appearances by Clifford the Big Red Dog, Sid the Science Kid, Curious George, Super Why, Martha and Word Girl!

In each of the eleven years KMOS has presented Kids Day, children from pre-school to eight years old enjoyed a day of fun and learning with their parents, grandparents or accompanying adult. Each child received a free book, courtesy of Scholastic, as well as other educational and entertaining items from other Kids Day partners.

Reach in the Community

Beginning in 2001 with the first Kids Day in Sedalia, KMOS staff and volunteers have been rewarded with ever-increasing turnout from the communities. Kids Day was conceived as our opportunity to meet viewers and members of all of the communities in our viewing area near their own homes.

In the eleven years of Kids Day, eight communities in our coverage area responded with solid support for KMOS and its mission of building literacy and cooperative family learning.

Partnerships

Community support is crucial to the success of each Kids Day, and every community stepped up. In 2011, partners located in and around Columbia donated funding, time, merchandise and expertise to give families a safe day of fun and educational activities.

These partners included, but are not limited to, Scholastic Books, Holiday Inn Executive Center, Atkins Pest Control, Balloons & Tunes, Children’s Hospital, Subway, Boehmer Chiropractic and Acupuncture, Missouri Credit Union, Family Health Center, Farmers Insurance, Children’s Orchard, Commerce Bank, McDonald’s, Socket, Sylvan Learning Center, Aaron’s Rents, Agrium Advanced Technologies, Humane Society, Home Depot, Bass Pro Shop and the Daniel Boone Regional Library.

Impact and Community Feedback

We anticipated an attendance of 3,000 to 4,000, but - along with our partners - were pleasantly surprised to find it was actually closer to 6,000. While some of the lines were lengthy, the vast majority of parents and caregivers were happy to have the event. In one community-wide survey, respondents rated KMOS Kids Day the #1 event of the year.
