Military and Veteran Services Team

Our Mission

The Office of Military and Veteran Services and the Military and Veterans Success Center was established to provide a one-stop resource center for our active duty service members, veterans, and military dependents by providing personalized assistance and support to guarantee student success. Our mission is a presidential initiative and we focus on a triad of services to include education, mental wellness and jobs. UCM provides an exemplary education with award winning degree programs sought by employers. To address mental wellness, UCM has partnered with the Vet Center of Kansas City in order to provide weekly on-site individual therapy appointments and Veteran Peer Support Group sessions for our combat veterans. Veteran Service Officers are available on a weekly basis to assist veterans with questions pertaining to educational and health benefits as well as community resources. UCM's Office of Career Services partners with over 700 employers who visit campus annually for the student career fairs. UCM actively seeks out and identifies veteran supportive employers to assist our veterans in securing jobs following graduation.

Charles "Lynn" Lowder, Director, Military and Veteran Services
Welcome to UCM Military and Veteran Services, where we believe and act in accordance with the credo: "Serving America's veterans...no higher duty...no greater honor." Just as in the military, everything begins with leadership and so it is with UCM's military student Presidential Initiative. Our President, Charles Ambrose, set out to establish a military veterans program second-to-none. An example of that commitment is our beautiful "best in class" Military and Veterans Success Center (MVSC) conveniently located at the center of campus. There you will find computers, a study area and a beautifully appointed lounge area for relaxation. This outstanding facility is a direct reflection of UCM's commitment to our military veterans. In fact, on the east wall of our Center you will see the words, "Always With Honor". As the old saying goes, "We mean what we say and we say what we mean."

In our Center, you will find three motivated full-time personnel to address your needs and concerns. Simply said, we are here to serve you. Our efforts are focused on three principal areas: quality education, mental wellness and jobs. While UCM has a longstanding reputation for offering a quality education, we also ensure our veteran students (or their dependents) have access to several mental wellness programs, if needed. These programs include the services of dedicated VA Vet Center counselors right on campus, for example. In the event these services are needed, you or your loved ones have help available...simply let us know. Lastly, UCM graduates are sought out by employers. We also have direct relationships with employers who are seeking veteran employees and we will work with you to secure that very important position you seek. It is all about "team" here.

Thanks for checking us out and thanks for your service. Call us directly with any questions...better yet, come to UCM for a first-hand visit. You'll be warmly welcomed!

Delilah Nichols, Coordinator, Military and Veteran Services
Nichols Welcome to the Office of Military and Veteran Services and the University of Central Missouri. In January 2011, President Chuck Ambrose appointed me to serve as staff liaison for our campus in assisting active duty military servicemembers, their spouses and dependents, and veteran students. I began my tenure at UCM on April 1, 1996 and have worked in the Office of the General Counsel and the Office of the President prior to this presidential appointment. I work directly with our combat veterans, the Vet Center of Kansas City, and with veteran service officers to assist our veterans in need of therapy and community resources. I also plan and execute all military and veteran-related ceremonies held on campus in addition to the day-to-day operations of the Military and Veterans Success Center. I look forward to serving as your point of contact and assisting you with your educational, campus, and community experiences.

On June 16, 2011, UCM's Board of Governors approved a Military Tuition Package to further assist our military service members, their families and veterans in pursuing their educational goals! On Veterans Day, 11/11/11, UCM dedicated its new Military and Veterans Success Center located in the Elliott Union, Room 117. The Center provides a location for our military and veteran students to study individually or as groups, access computer work stations with CAC readers, as well as direct access to dedicated staff to assist you with your needs. The UCM Student Veterans Organization provides an opportunity for student veterans to engage in campus activities and interact with like-minded individuals.
