Women's and Gender Studies
Message from the Director
Do you believe gender matters! Are you challenged by its complexities?
Do you want an academic program that gives you practical skills that really matter in real world contexts?
Do you want an academic program that truly mentors your academic journey?
Then you are in the right place!
This website will show you some of the benefits to adding a Women’s and Gender Studies component to your degree. You will see our courses and requirements, information about our faculty as well as on-going information about the wide array of programs and activities the WGS Center supports.
We are a program with great diversity in our faculty, in our students, and in our activities. The inter-disciplinary nature of our work adds excitement, exchange and debate! Many types of people are drawn to the study of gender and sexuality: women and men, activists and theorists and artists, gay and straight, traditional and alternative, those looking forward and those looking backward—we strive to learn from each other and to build constructive learning experiences that prepare us for professional work in various social settings.
In all this diversity, however, we don’t lose sight of you as an individual! The program seeks to nurture and support students as they are on their academic journey. We are committed to helping you find your own voice and your own place from which to speak!
Above all, the WGS Center is a social network for students and faculty to find others who share their interests and want to work together for the common good. As the director of the WGS Center, I welcome you into this network! It is an exciting place to be!
