Workforce Central at UCM
Continuing Education Units (CEU)
What is a CEU?
A Continuing Education Unit is equal to ten hours of educational contact time under the direct supervision of UCM approved presenter(s). Continuing Education Units are frequently offered at workshops, seminars, and training sessions that provide professional development opportunities. The educational content of the program is evaluated by faculty from the sponsoring UCM academic department. Continuing Education Units are coordinated and issued by the School of Graduate and Extended Studies.
Why should I offer CEUs?
Continuing Education helps to improve job performance, open new job possibilities, enrich the work environment, and increase job satisfaction for employees. Continuing Education Unit courses are designed to provide specific and focused information that will immediately enhance an employee’s job performance. Continuing Education Units are frequently required to maintain certification in trade and technical fields.
How is my program approved for CEUs?
-
Fill out the CEU program application form and submit to UCM’s School of Graduate and Extended Studies at least two months prior to the event for which you wish to offer CEUs.
-
Include a copy of your program agenda (dates and times required) and a brief biography of each presenter, listing education and experience in the topics being presented.
-
Faculty from the appropriate academic department at UCM will evaluate the educational content of the program, determine the number of CEUs that may be offered, and set any additional requirements.
-
Once approval is granted, the sponsor will receive notification of the number of CEUs participants may receive and an electronic version of the customized individual application form participants will need to fill out.
-
Sponsors may then advertise that CEUs are available.
What will it cost?
There is no fee for the sponsoring agency to apply for approval to offer CEUs. Each participant desiring CEUs must complete an Individual CEU Application Form at the event and submit it to the on-site coordinator with a fee of $20. This one-time fee entitles the participant to a signed CEU certificate mailed to their home or office and a permanent record at UCM of all CEUs earned.
We recommend that the sponsoring agency collect the fees from each participant at registration and remit a check for the total amount to University of Central Missouri.
Who can apply for CEUs?
Anyone attending the seminar or conference may apply for CEUs provided they meet the requirements established by the sponsoring academic department. Participants must apply at the event to receive CEU certification. Continuing Education Unit guidelines require that an individual may receive CEUs from only one issuing agency per event. It is the responsibility of the sponsoring agency to verify that applicants are not applying for CEUs from another accrediting agency.
