Computer Information Systems Minor

Gain a greater understanding of how to use information technology as a solution to various business problems. At the University of Central Missouri, our Computer Information Systems (CIS) minor will provide you with knowledge and skills related to the design, development, implementation and maintenance of information systems in various business operations. You’ll cultivate fundamental software development and network system administration skills that equip you to contribute to information technology initiatives — or help you better communicate with those who do.

Take CIS minor courses in person or online

What you will study

As a Computer Information Systems minor at the University of Central Missouri, you’ll build a hands-on foundation in Visual C#, web application development and networking — with the option to extend your undergraduate studies in database management or systems analysis and design. You’ll also gain a fundamental background in business processes through accounting courses.

Your CIS minor program courses will enable you to apply what you learn to relevant problems that affect business operations. Gain a diverse background in computing technologies and how to use them in business settings through courses such as:

  • Business Information Management GE
  • Principles of Data Communications and Local Area Networking
  • Principles of Managerial Accounting

  • Guest speakers: Learn more about careers in computer information systems by hearing from experts in the field. Each year, UCM hosts a Big Data Analytics series. You’ll learn firsthand from experienced CIS professionals what techniques, tips and tools you’ll need to be successful in your own career.

 

What can you do with a Computer Information Systems minor from UCM?

Our Computer Information Systems minor will prepare you for high-demand jobs such as computer systems analyst, computer support specialist, database administrator and network and computer systems administrator. Students who complete this minor, along with a related bachelor’s degree program, also go on to pursue various master’s programs, including UCM’s master’s degree in Computer Information Systems and Information Technology
