2007 Distinguished Alumni Recipients - Ted and Betty Meyer
Ted and Betty Meyer, owners of Meyer Music, are two University of Central Missouri alumni who received Distinguished Alumni Awards in 2007 from the UCM Alumni Association.
Meyer Music Co. is one of the largest piano retailers in Kansas and Missouri. Between the couple, they have four degrees from UCM. Betty earned bachelor's and master's degrees in music in 1960 and 1965, and Ted received bachelor's and master's degrees in social studies education in 1962 and 1967.
While teaching full time in Kansas City, the couple balanced family obligations, completed advanced degrees and fulfilled their dream of starting a business. They formed Meyer Music in 1966 in Blue Springs, providing musical instruments and related materials and private lessons. For many years, they provided the UCM music department with new pianos, free of charge, through a unique college loan program they helped to establish with the Kawai Piano Company.
