A Letter to Mule Nation

David SharpI wanted to say "thank you" to UCM for all that the university has done for me and my career.

Short story: I did not have the pedigree or the money to attend college so I enlisted in the military. I was told in high school that "not every kid gets to go to college." I was in the U.S. Army in Europe when I applied to UCM in 1989. I was actually in the field when I got my letter and I've kept it over the years as it means the world to me. UCM gave me a chance to go to school, and I am forever grateful.

I have been a teacher/administrator for the past 22 years. This past year, I had the privilege to be named the Greater Kansas City Principals Association Principal of the Yea and then was awarded Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals High School Principal of the Year for the State of Missouri. I will represent Missouri in Washington D.C. in September.

Without UCM giving me a chance, I would not be where I am today.

Many thanks to Mule Nation,
David Sharp
