UCM will celebrate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with the 14th annual MLK Gospel Concert, planned for 7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21th, in Hendricks Hall.
The gospel concert is one of a variety of events that make up the university’s annual MLK Celebration. This year’s concert is jointly sponsored by UCM’s Office of Community Engagement and the Performing Arts Series and will include inspirational performances by the Praise Teams from Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, First United Methodist Church (FUMC) of Warrensburg and Jesus Saves Pentecostal Church Sanctuary Choir, as well as featured soloist Emily Russell. The public is invited to attend, free of charge.

The highlight of the 2013 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration will be the Freedom Scholarship Dinner on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 6:30 p.m. in the Elliott Union ballroom. L. Douglas Wilder, former governor of Virginia and the first elected African American governor in the United States will be the featured speaker for the event. Tickets for the dinner are still available by calling the UCM Office of Community Engagement at 660-543-4156 and at the Greater Warrensburg Area Chamber of Commerce at 100 S. Holden.
